Instruction will focus on:
-- basic dances such as schottisch, polka and mixers
-- intermediate dances such as waltz, pols and hambo
-- bygdedans (native Norwegian dances) such as springleik

Everyone is welcome, no partner is necessary, leather-soled shoes are recommended. Parking is available behind the Lodge. Suggested donation is $4. Please contact Linda Gunn at lindagunn@rio.com if you have any questions.

Sons of Norway Lodge, 1836 Alder St, Eugene Scandinavian Classical Music
Two outstanding UO Music graduate students, Holland Phillips and Helena Kopchick, will perform Scandinavian classical music on violin and bassoon, respectively. Holland specializes in the music of the Danish composer Carl Nielsen, Helena in that of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

Please join us in celebrating our success in funding the Scandinavian Languages Instructional Endowment with more than $50,000 -- so far!

We will have a brief meeting beforehand and refreshments afterward. Parking is available behind the Sons of Norway Lodge.

Beall Hall, UO UO Symphony Concerto Concert
As winner of the 2008 UO Concerto Competition, Holland Phillips will perform Violin Concerto, Opus 33 by Danish composer Carl Nielsen. The program will also include works by Sibelius, Dvorak, and Enesco.

Shelter 1, Alton Baker Park, Eugene Midsummer Potluck Picnic
The Friends of Scandinavian Studies, Sonja Lodge, and Vasa Lodge invite anyone with an interest in Scandinavia to a potluck picnic. Bring food to share, plus your own plate and flatware. Some drinks will be provided.

Wear ethnic costumes, if possible. David Elliker-Vaagsberg and his band Fossegrimen will play Scandinavian music. Linda Gunn will lead some easy folk dancing.

Here are driving directions to Alton Baker Park, Eugene, OR via I-5 from the north:
  1. Take exit 194-B (south bound) going west (to I-105).
  2. Take the second exit (Downtown, Coburg Road/Autzen Stadium).
  3. Keep in the right lane and take a right just after the Honda dealership and before the Ferry Street Bridge.
  4. Turn left at the first stoplight onto Club Road.
  5. Follow Club Road around to Alton Baker Park. Keep driving through the parking areas to almost the end of the parking lot where the large picnic shelters are. Midsommar will be at Shelter 1.
